If every gift hurts you, viewers stop feeling like players and start feeling like griefers. If every gift helps, nothing is at stake. A good rule of thumb is roughly half your mapped actions on each side, then adjust after a stream or two based on how it felt.
The most satisfying dynamic is a tug of war. One viewer sends a bomb, another answers with a heal or a shield within seconds. Fall immunity, cleanse and a full heal are perfect rescue gifts, and they make people feel like heroes instead of just spectators.
Combos chat will start on purpose
Once viewers understand the actions, they begin stacking them. You do not need to design these, but you can nudge them by mapping actions that pair well.
Lean into a few obvious ones and mention them out loud on stream so chat learns the pattern.
- Darkness plus skeletons or Eaters: you cannot see what is chasing you
- Blood moon plus a goblin army: a night you have to survive
- On fire plus a cleanse: chat sets you alight, then a kind viewer puts it out
- Drop or slow plus a meteor: the classic piling-on
