How to Run a Fair Giveaway on TikTok LIVE
A fair TikTok LIVE giveaway has clear entry rules, a winner chosen where everyone can see it, and a prize you actually deliver. Set those three things up before you go live and the rest is easy.
Decide what the giveaway is for
Before you pick a prize, pick a goal. Do you want more followers, longer watch time, more chat activity, or a thank-you for regulars? The goal decides the entry method, and the entry method decides whether the giveaway feels fair.
A giveaway built to grow followers should reward following. One built to thank your community should reward people who showed up and chatted. Mixing five goals into one giveaway usually leaves everybody confused about what they have to do.
Pick entry methods people can understand in one sentence
If you cannot explain the entry in one sentence, viewers will not bother. Pick one or two methods and say them out loud every few minutes, because new people join all the time.
- Follow and type a keyword in chat (for example, follow and type JOIN). Simple, easy to check, and good for growth.
- Comment once during a set window. Good for small streams because it keeps the pool manageable.
- Share the stream. Hard to verify, so only use it if you are happy to trust people.
- Be present for a set time, for example everyone in chat at the 30-minute mark. Rewards loyalty.
- Send a gift as an entry. Be careful here, see the rules section below. Many creators avoid this entirely.
Whatever you choose, make entries free to the viewer whenever you can. Giveaways that require spending money are where most trouble starts, both with viewers and with platform rules.
Write the rules before you go live
Rules do not need to be long. They need to be fixed before the stream so you are never inventing them while a chat full of people watches. Put them in your LIVE title, a pinned comment, or a text overlay, and read them aloud once at the start.
- State the prize and how many winners there will be.
- State exactly how to enter and the cutoff time.
- State who can win. Mention any age or region limits, and that you may need to confirm the winner is eligible.
- State how the winner is picked (for example, a wheel spin on screen).
- State how and when the prize is delivered, and what happens if the winner does not respond.
- Say that the giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed by or associated with TikTok, unless that is untrue.
Write a redraw rule too. A common one is that if the winner is not in chat within 60 seconds, you spin again. Decide the number in advance so the redraw never looks like favoritism.
Use a visible wheel, not a private pick
The single biggest fairness upgrade is picking the winner on screen. If you scroll chat and say 'the winner is whoever I choose', half your audience will assume it was rigged, even if it was not. A spinning wheel with every name visible removes that doubt.
Load the entrants before you spin, show the list for a moment so people can find their own name, then spin once. Do not stop and restart the wheel because you do not like the result. If you do that once, everyone will remember it.
If you stream with OBS or TikTok LIVE Studio, put the wheel in as a browser-source overlay so it sits in your scene the whole time. Viewers who join late can still see exactly how the result was reached.
Where TikPlays fits in
TikPlays includes a giveaway wheel alongside its other stream tools. You paste an overlay link into OBS or TikTok LIVE Studio as a browser source, and the wheel shows on stream so entrants watch the spin happen.
It sits next to the other things many streamers already use during a giveaway: goal bars, a top-gifter overlay, a chat overlay and sound alerts. A goal bar is a handy way to tie a giveaway to a target, such as spinning the wheel when the follower goal fills. You do not need TikPlays to run a fair giveaway, since any visible wheel works, but it keeps the wheel and your other overlays in one place.

Follow TikTok's promotion rules
TikTok has its own rules for contests and promotions on LIVE, and they can change and differ by region. Read the current community guidelines and LIVE policies in the app before you run anything, because nobody else can tell you what applies to your account today. Not affiliated with TikTok, so treat this guide as general advice and not as a policy summary.
As a rule of thumb, be careful with anything that looks like gambling: paying or gifting for a chance to win a prize is the area that attracts the most scrutiny. Also be careful about asking people to leave the app, to share personal details publicly, or to use off-platform links to enter. When in doubt, keep the entry free, keep it inside the stream, and keep the prize modest.
Features, eligibility and monetization rules also vary by account and country, including who can go LIVE at all. Check your own LIVE settings and TikTok's help pages instead of relying on a number you saw in a video.
Avoid scams, both ways
Giveaways attract scammers, and some scammers pretend to be you. Tell viewers, on screen and out loud, that you will never ask for money, passwords, card details or a 'shipping fee' to claim a prize. Announce winners in chat and contact them through one channel you name in advance.
Be just as careful on your side. Never ship to or pay a winner based only on a message that arrives from a new account. Confirm the winner is the same account that was in your chat, ask them to reply from that account, and keep a screenshot of the spin and the winner's name.
Watch for fake entries too. If one brand-new account posts the keyword fifty times, remove the duplicates before you spin. Say in your rules that one entry counts per person.
Run it live: a simple checklist
On the day, the process is short. Announce the giveaway early so people stay, remind new viewers of the entry method every few minutes, and close entries at the time you said you would.
- Announce the prize, entry method and cutoff in the first few minutes.
- Repeat the entry method regularly for people who just joined.
- Close entries on time and say so out loud.
- Remove duplicates and anyone who clearly does not meet the rules.
- Show the list, then spin the wheel once on screen.
- Confirm the winner in chat and contact them through the channel you named.
- Post proof afterwards, such as a screenshot of the result, and deliver the prize when you said you would.
Delivering on time matters more than the prize size. Creators who follow through get bigger audiences for their next giveaway.
