Flipping is Hard on TikTok LIVE: Gift Ideas and What Viewers Can Trigger
With the TikPlays mod, viewers can send gifts that help your phone climb (rescue, moon gravity, super jumps) or wreck it (reversed controls, heavy gravity, a shattered phone). This guide covers which gifts to map to which actions, how to price the chaos, and which combos make the best moments.
What viewers can actually do to your run
Flipping is Hard is a Unity game where you tumble a phone up a mountain one flip at a time. The TikPlays mod is a MelonLoader mod that polls for whatever your viewers have just bought, then drives the game's own code: its gravity and time-scale modifiers, its phone-shatter state, its jump and flip tuning, and its teleport. Nothing is hooked at the OS level and no memory is poked.
There are 20 actions. Ten help the climb and ten make it worse. That split is the most useful thing to know before you map anything, because a stream where chat can only hurt you gets old fast, and one where chat can only help you has no tension.
Split your gifts into a help tier and a harm tier
Do not scatter the 20 actions randomly across your gift list. Decide first which gifts are rescues and which are attacks, and tell chat out loud. Viewers who know that one gift is a lifeline and another is a trap will send both, and they will send them at the right moments.
A simple rule works well: the gifts viewers already recognize as small go to small effects, and the big, flashy gifts go to effects that change the whole run. Open the gift and earnings calculator if you want to see how different gifts add up for you before you commit to a layout.

Pacing cheap gifts versus big gifts
Cheap gifts arrive in bursts, so give them effects that are fun in bursts. Air control, slow motion, weak flips and reversed controls all stack up into a lively feed without ending the run. If ten small gifts land in a row, the phone should be wobbling, not dead.
Save the run-defining actions for the expensive gifts. Rescue, launch up, shatter the phone and yeet all change your position or your state in one hit, so they should feel like an event. If a single cheap gift can send you flying off a ledge you spent twenty minutes climbing, chat will spam it and you will get annoyed. Put the brutal ones behind gifts that people have to think about.
One more pacing tip: keep at least one small gift mapped to something that helps. New viewers who only send one cheap gift want to feel like they mattered, and a bit of moon gravity or a hover does that without hurting anyone.
Suggested gift mapping by tier
These are starting points, not rules. Swap them around once you see what your chat likes to send.
- Smallest gifts: Slow motion, Air control, Weak flips, Reversed controls. Low stakes, easy to stack, and visibly funny.
- Small to mid gifts: Super jump, Moon gravity, Heavy gravity, Fast forward, Invisible phone. These change how the next few flips feel.
- Mid to large gifts: Hover, Power flip, Unbreakable case, Butter fingers, No jumping, Giant phone. These last long enough that chat will notice the effect building up.
- Big gifts: Rescue, Freeze frame, Launch up. Real saves and real momentum.
- Biggest gifts: Shatter the phone and Yeet. These are the reveal moments, so give them the top of your list.
Freeze frame deserves special mention. It kills a fall mid-air, so it is best as a save that a viewer buys after you start tumbling. Put it on a gift big enough that chat feels clever for using it at the right second.
Helpful versus harmful: keeping the balance honest
The harmful list is more entertaining, but the helpful list is what keeps you playing. A rescue takes you back up to the highest spot you rested on, so a big fall is never a total loss. That single action is what lets you accept yes to yeets and shatters without quitting the stream.
Pair every nasty effect with a counter chat can also buy. Unbreakable case is the obvious answer to shatter the phone, and freeze frame answers a bad fall. When a troll sends a shatter, someone else can spend to protect you, and that back-and-forth is the game between viewers.
If you are newer to the game, lean more toward help. If you are a strong player who wants a challenge, reverse the ratio and let chat earn each rescue.
Combos that make good clips
The best moments come from stacking two effects that interact. These are the ones worth building your gift list around.
- Moon gravity plus Super jump plus Launch up: a floaty, absurd ascent that skips half a section. Pure help, so make it a reward for a chat goal.
- Hover plus Slow motion: you hang in the air in slow motion while chat argues about where to land. Great for a tense recovery.
- Heavy gravity plus No jumping: the phone drops like a brick and cannot jump back. A short window of real pain.
- Reversed controls plus Weak flips: every input goes the wrong way and barely does anything. Very funny, very short.
- Butter fingers plus Fast forward: a slippery case at high speed. Expect to slide off something.
- Invisible phone plus Giant phone: the phone is gigantic but you cannot see it. Chat loves this one.
- Power flip plus Yeet: a big flip in a random direction. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes a disaster.
Giant phone is skipped if you join someone else's lobby, so if you plan to play multiplayer, do not put it on an expensive gift. Solo play runs as a local host, so every effect works.
Setting it up with TikPlays
TikPlays turns a TikTok LIVE into a game viewers play: each gift you map on the dashboard triggers an action in the game in real time. Flipping is Hard is one of the 32 interactives in a single subscription, and it works alongside TikTok LIVE Studio or OBS. There is no port forwarding involved. Follows, likes, shares and chat can also trigger things in many games, so check the dashboard for what applies here.
The setup is short, and the live action list from the game is shown below so you can pick exactly which effects you want.
- Install MelonLoader on Flipping is Hard, then drop the TikPlays mod into Mods/.
- Paste your dashboard API key into the mod's config file (UserData/TikPlaysFlipping.cfg).
- Map gifts to actions on the dashboard, then pick Flipping is Hard when you Connect.
Make the gifts visible and audible
A gift that changes the game but that nobody can tell was sent feels flat. Read out who sent what, keep your gift ticker on screen, and react out loud when the phone goes invisible or the controls flip. Chat needs to connect the spend to the result.
TikPlays also includes a Windows desktop app that reads gifts and chat aloud, sound alerts, goal bars, top-gifter and chat overlays, and a giveaway wheel. Overlays are links you paste into your streaming software as a browser source. A goal bar that says a rescue unlocks at a certain point is an easy way to get people gifting toward a shared target.
