TikTok LIVE gifts explained: coins, diamonds and what creators earn
Viewers buy coins, spend them on gifts, and the creator receives diamonds that can later be converted to real money. The exact payout depends on your region, TikTok's current terms and fees, so treat any single universal rate with suspicion.
The three currencies in one picture
There are three things people mix up: coins, gifts and diamonds. Coins are what a viewer buys with real money in the TikTok app. Gifts are what the viewer spends those coins on during a LIVE. Diamonds are what the creator receives when a gift lands.
Think of it as a chain. Viewer pays money, gets coins, sends a gift, and the creator gets diamonds. Each link has its own rules, and money is lost or reshaped along the way.
- Coins: bought by viewers, spent on gifts
- Gifts: the animated items a viewer sends in your LIVE
- Diamonds: the creator-side balance that comes from received gifts
What happens when someone sends a gift
A viewer taps a gift, coins leave their balance, and the gift animation plays on your stream. Each gift has a coin price that the viewer sees. Cheap gifts cost a few coins, big animated ones cost far more.
On your side, the gift turns into diamonds in your account. The number of diamonds is not the same as the number of coins the viewer spent, because TikTok keeps a share. Check the current gift list inside the app for the coin cost of each gift, since the lineup and prices change.
Why exact payout varies
Nobody can give you one honest number for dollars per gift. Several things move it: the country the viewer bought coins in, the platform they bought on (app store fees differ from web purchases), your own region, and the terms of your account.
Conversion from diamonds to cash also depends on how and when you withdraw, plus any payout fees or minimums. TikTok can change all of this. Anyone quoting a flat rate as fact is guessing, so we will not.
- Where the viewer bought their coins
- Which store or payment method they used
- Your region and account terms
- Withdrawal method, fees and minimums
- Changes TikTok makes over time
Check your own numbers, not a screenshot from someone else
The reliable source is your own account. Open your LIVE analytics and your wallet or earnings page in the TikTok app, and compare a few streams. Look at diamonds earned per stream and what you can actually withdraw.
If you want to plan ahead, write down three things: average diamonds per stream, how many streams you do a week, and what your withdrawal option shows for the conversion. That gives you a personal estimate that beats any forum post.
- Open your LIVE analytics in the TikTok app
- Note diamonds earned in your last 5 streams
- Check your wallet or earnings page for the withdrawal conversion shown to you
- Use the average as your planning number
Estimate it with the free gift calculator
If you would rather not do the maths by hand, the TikPlays gift and earnings calculator is free and needs no account. You put in the gifts you expect and it shows a rough estimate, so you can see how much a good night might be worth.
Use it as an estimate, not a promise. Your real payout still follows TikTok's terms for your account, and the result will move if those terms change.

Why gifts matter more when they do something
A gift that only plays an animation is nice. A gift that changes what is happening on screen gives viewers a reason to send it, because they see the result straight away.
That is the idea behind TikPlays. It turns a TikTok LIVE into a game the viewers play. You map gifts on the TikPlays dashboard, and each mapped gift triggers an action in the game in real time, such as spawning enemies, healing, launching or changing the weather. Follows, likes, shares and chat can trigger things too in many games.
- Small gift: a minor effect viewers can spam
- Mid gift: something visible, like a heal or a weather change
- Big gift: a moment, like a nuke or a boss spawn
Mapping gifts so viewers understand them
Keep the menu short. If you map twenty gifts, nobody remembers any of them. Pick a handful, give each a clear effect, and say it out loud during the stream.
Match the size of the effect to the size of the gift. Viewers notice quickly when a cheap gift does more than an expensive one, and they stop sending the expensive one. Put your mapping on screen with an overlay so people can see it without asking.
- Choose 4 to 6 gifts viewers already send often
- Assign small, medium and big effects in that order
- Say the mapping aloud at the start of each stream
- Adjust after a few streams based on what gets sent
Tools that go with it
TikPlays works alongside TikTok LIVE Studio or OBS, and overlays are links you paste in as a browser source. Goal bars and top-gifter overlays make gifts visible, and a Windows desktop app can read gifts and chat aloud so supporters get a shout-out without you stopping.
There are 32 interactives in one subscription, from PC game mods to Roblox games to OBS arcade games. Setup is a dashboard link plus an installer for mod games, with no port forwarding. TikPlays is not affiliated with TikTok or any game studio.
